A safe home should be available for everyone. But can we come up with low-cost and high-quality solutions for improved housing and living conditions in disaster-prone areas? The overall theme is combined with a growing awareness and urgent need for sustainable solutions and alternative materials. Architects and engineers need to be aware that the two most used materials in the construction industry, concrete (11%) and steel (10%), contribute to more than one-fifth of total annual global CO2 emissions. This workshop combines critical and strategic design thinking with utilizing traditional techniques, natural material, and the concepts of Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and Recover, in order to meet the Sustainable Development Goals.
