Open Innovation Hub
PUTTING PEOPLE AT THE CENTRE through Social Innovation and Technology
The Open Innovation Hub (OIH) for Digital Health and Social Innovation at UCLL University of Applied Sciences is one of the Open Innovation Hubs within the E³UDRES² European University Alliance.
Across Europe, digital transformation is reshaping healthcare, education, public services, and the way (health) communities interact. Emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, immersive technologies, digital health solutions, and data-driven services offer tremendous opportunities to improve quality of life.
At the same time, they raise important questions about accessibility, inclusion, ethics, and digital equity. Addressing these societal challenges requires collaboration across disciplines, sectors, and borders.
Innovation creates value when it responds to real human needs. The Digital Health and Social Innovation Hub brings together researchers, students, companies, public authorities, healthcare providers, and civil society to co-create digital solutions with and for end users.
Our human-centred approach ensures that technology is accessible, inclusive, ethical, and meaningful. By combining expertise in technology, healthcare, education, social sciences, and business, we support the development of innovations that strengthen well-being, social participation, and sustainable communities.
The primary aim of the hub is to accelerate the responsible development and implementation of social technologies that create positive societal impact. Through applied research, co-creation, and interdisciplinary collaboration, the hub bridges the gap between technological innovation and societal needs.
As part of the E³UDRES² alliance, the hub connects regional ecosystems with European partners to stimulate knowledge exchange, innovation, and entrepreneurship while addressing shared societal challenges.
The Open Innovation Hubs in E³UDRES² serve as collaborative platforms where companies, entrepreneurs, researchers, students, and other stakeholders come together to share resources, knowledge, and expertise to foster innovation. The OIHs aim to serve as a bridge between various stakeholders, creating connections, and bringing the right people together.
Additionally, the E³UDRES² OIHs offer networking events, trainings, and other programs to support the development of new ideas and ventures.
Unique Partnerships
The hub develops long-term collaborations with businesses, public organisations, healthcare providers, educational institutions, and social partners. Together, we create opportunities for innovation through education, applied research, entrepreneurship, and real-world experimentation.
Applied Research
Our interdisciplinary research explores how emerging technologies can improve health, well-being, education, social inclusion, and public services. We investigate both technological innovation and its social impact, ensuring that digital solutions are effective, ethical, and centred on people.
Co-creation and Living Labs
The Social Technology Hub provides opportunities to design, test, validate, and refine innovative solutions in authentic environments. Through living labs, pilot projects, and user-centred design, citizens, professionals, and organisations actively participate in the innovation process.
Knowledge and Capacity Building
The hub shares expertise through training, workshops, policy support, and dissemination of research results. By connecting education with research and practice, we help organisations and professionals develop the skills needed for an inclusive digital future.
