Recognising Student Engagement Across Europe: The Development of the E³UDRES² Engagement Certificate

The E³UDRES² Engagement Certificate was developed to make student engagement within the alliance more visible and formally recognised. Across E³UDRES², students contribute to many different areas, including international projects, communication activities, events, representation, community-building initiatives, and local as well as alliance-wide formats. These contributions play an important role in strengthening the student perspective within the alliance.

Recognising and Strengthening Student Engagement Across E³UDRES²

The initiative was first proposed within the Student Board in Fulda by Rodrigo Cerezo as a way to acknowledge student engagement in a more structured and meaningful format. What initially started as a local proposal gradually developed into an alliance-wide concept, shaped through discussions within the Student Board and in exchange with key stakeholders across the E³UDRES² alliance.

During the development process, the focus was placed on creating a certificate that reflects the international, collaborative, and student-driven character of E³UDRES². The concept was further refined to ensure that it could recognise different forms of engagement, from participation in projects and events to communication work, organisational support, representation, and active contribution to student-led initiatives.

Beyond recognising participation, the E³UDRES² Engagement Certificate aims to highlight the broader competencies students develop through their involvement. These include international collaboration, communication, teamwork, organisation, responsibility, and intercultural exchange. In this way, the certificate not only acknowledges what students have contributed, but also the skills and experiences they gain through their active role in E³UDRES².

The certificate became especially visible during the E³UDRES² Spring Summit in Jyväskylä, Finland, where the first certificates were handed out. This moment marked the official start of its implementation and turned the idea into a tangible recognition format for student engagement across the alliance.

As E³UDRES² continues to grow as a European university alliance, the Engagement Certificate represents another step toward strengthening student engagement, visibility, and recognition across the alliance. It reflects the importance of student contributions and supports a culture in which active involvement is seen, valued, and encouraged.
